Solar Energy And Climate Change: How Can You Help?

A topic of much discussion is the rapid solar energy and climate change on our planet. The gradual transformation of our planet’s atmosphere is believed by some to be normal. However, scientific evidence shows that it is not.

You’re not sure where to begin? Don’t be! Let’s get started!

What Is Climate Change?

Let’s start at the beginning. What’s the weather like? How is the weather impacted by solar energy and climate change?

We experience these changes every day. Snow may fall in one part of the world, but sunshine can be seen in another. Climate is different from weather. Climate is the long-term weather conditions in a certain area. Although seasons can have a significant impact on the climate, it is still important to know what factors influence weather patterns.

Now let’s look at the climate. NASA defines climate change as “changes to the weather patterns in a particular place.” It could change the amount of rainfall that a location receives over a given year. This could be a change in the average temperature of a location for a certain month or season.” Climate change is gradual, even though our weather can be unpredictable and change in a matter of hours or days.

What Factors Influence Climate Change?

Both natural and human factors have contributed to the change in climate of our planet. “The United States Environmental Protection Agency stated that “…it is extremely likely (>95%) that the primary cause of warming is human activity.” Here are some examples.

  1. Greenhouse Gasses: The three main greenhouse gasses have been increasing ever since the Industrial Revolution. It is due to other human activities than manufacturing and production. This has been caused by increased emissions that have also exacerbated the greenhouse effect. These higher emissions also increased the greenhouse effects, leading to an increase in global surface temperatures.
  2. Carbon Dioxide: Human activities release more than 30 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year.
  3. Methane: Human activities have increased methane by more than 2.5x compared to pre-industrial levels.
  4. Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous Oxide. Since the Industrial Revolution, nitrous dioxide concentrations have increased by 20 percent. The concentrations of nitrous oxide also increased rapidly towards the end of the 20th century.

Climate Change Evidence

Take a look at the evidence that scientists have found to support Earth’s rapid changes in climate:

  1. Carbon dioxide is a major contributor to global temperature increase. Earth’s average temperature has increased by 2 degrees Fahrenheit since the 19th century. Since the 19 th century, Earth’s temperature has increased by 2 degrees Fahrenheit. The record warmest years are tied between 2016 and 2023.
  2. Oceans are warming up: The oceans have absorbed much of the heat that the sun has produced, since 90% of Earth’s extra energy is stored under the water. Ocean’s top 328 ft. have experienced a temperature increase of over 0.6 degrees F in the last decade.
  3. The shrinking ice sheets: NASA’s Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment data shows that Greenland has lost an average of “279 billion tons of ice” from 1993 to 2019, while Antarctica has lost approximately 148 million tons ….”
  4. Satellites show a decrease in snow cover during spring over the Northern Hemisphere.
  5. Sea Level Rise: Our sea level has risen by 8 inches over the last century.

5 Ways You Can Help

Everyone can help fight global warming by doing a variety of things. We can all do these simple things!

  1. You can save energy at home by switching to LED lightbulbs, using electric appliances that are energy efficient, and lowering your heating and cooling. Switching to LED bulbs, using energy-efficient electric appliances, and lowering the temperature of your home can help you reduce heating and cooling expenses. You can hang your clothes up to dry after washing them in cold water. One of the most effective ways to conserve energy is to use a solar+storage system. Solar energy can be used to reduce carbon emissions and save money. You can also use it to store excess power for grid outages and peak rates.
  2. Use public transport, or walk, cycle, or bike. Cycling or walking is an excellent way to improve your health and reduce greenhouse gasses. Consider using public transportation or carpooling if you are planning to travel long distances.
  3. Eat more vegetables: Plant-based foods produce less greenhouse gasses than traditional meals.
  4. Consider Your Travels: Airplanes burn fossil fuels and emit greenhouse gasses in large quantities.
  5. Reuse, Repair, and Recycling: Certain products, such as electronics and clothing can cause carbon emissions.
  6. Utilizing the power of the sun by getting a solar panel installation near you, driving a solar power charged car.
